Twigs® was founded by Lisa Guilliams, Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, to provide free summer lunches to children participating in the National School Lunch Program. Twigs and F.I.G.S., a senior outreach program, are part of The Family Treehouse,® a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization.

The National School Lunch Program is a lifeline for families. It provides students with free or reduced cost meals every day during the school year. For many participants, those meals may be the only time they eat. Summer break for those children and others means going without food. In 2011, Twigs served 2,513
lunches in one community. In 2017, we’re preparing to serve 100,000 lunches in 32 communities.

In 2012, Twigs added a free monthly food market and in 2014 began providing free food to children at risk of having nothing to eat over the weekend. In 2015, Twigs joined forces with the University of Illinois extension to teach children basic cooking skills and launched a family wellness fair with Molina Healthcare.
